Mid Lofotens

Kabelvåg, a small town on the Lofoten island chain some 6 kilometers from the city of Svolvær, has proven to be a fine place to take a day of rest.  We arrived to the presents from OXOliving (see Christmas in July) on Saturday and soon met our Couch Surfing host and their koselig apartment.

Our cozy home for a few days.

The weather remained rather damp Saturday evening, but we had a great time dancing at Bacalao Bar in downtown Svolvær.  At about 2:30 in the morning we left the bar and rode the 6 km back to our hosts' home just in time for a 5 minute dumping of rain... I guess the clothes can always use another wash right?

Sunday, our second day in town, we decided to hike up the local mountain across the street.  We had to be rather careful with our route research ahead of time, as the overcast was too thick to actually see where we were headed.  We found the summit trail after tromping around a lake through the usual myr landscape.  We stood at the sighting dial on the summit for a few minutes imagining the breathtaking visita we knew was hiding behind the shroud of mist and clouds.  We returned to Kabelvåg to dry clothes, freshly baked bread, and tea.

On top of the local hill, short utsikt, men god tur uannset.

We rode back into Svolvær for the fourth time in two days (we are getting to know the commute rather well :) to visit our hosts at their work.  They surprised us with our chocolate fix for the day withe the best hot chocolate you can imagine.  It hit the spot perfectly!

The best hot chocolate in the world, and its creator in the background.

 Mmmmmmmmmm.

It has been great to visit our hosts here in Kabelvåg, our hosts have made us feel very much at home, and we look forward to meeting them again someday in the future!

 You guys are da best!

Bellies full, we headed back out of town, and were met this time by clearing skies and the surroundings we had been guessing about came into view with more stunning precence than even we had been able to imagine.
